The Smith Family's Cannon Safe Survives 2 Car Crashes After Being Dragged Over 1.5 Miles
Imagine receiving a phone call from a police officer and hearing that your home safe was not only involved in one car accident but two? That’s how Chris Smith of Russellville, South Carolina found out his house was burglarized when he and his family were out of town visiting family.
As the weather changed from spring to autumn, burglars sneaked into the Smith’s house at night and proceeded to steal any electronic and other valuables not securely stored away behind their Cannon Safe. Knowing that all of the home owner’s most valuable possessions were locked behind their Cannon Safe, the burglars spent 3-4 hours trying to pry open their safe, using an awe and pickaxe they found in the garage. Not being able to gain entry into the safe, one of the burglars backed up his pickup truck while the other one wrapped a chain around the safe.
They dragged the safe through the exiting front door of the house. Then they proceeded a mile and a half down the street hoping to damage the safe enough to gain entrance at their final destination. The Smith’s family safe hit a car causing over 11,000 in damages, broke the chain off the car and hit a second car totaling it.
When police officers arrived they tried to open the safe but were not able to gain access. The police continued with prying the safe for over an hour to finally gain entrance and called the owner, Chris Smith.
Once, Chris told Cannon Safe his family’s story he said, “I was never worried about going on vacation or to the store because I owned a Cannon Safe.” After his safe survived 3-4 hours of a pry attack, being dragged behind a truck for a mile and a half and hitting two cars anyone can understand why he never worried.
The Smith family received a brand new Cannon Safe at no charge to them because of Cannon’s Best Lifetime Warranty, we paid for the freight, a locksmith to go out there and look at their safe, and for their new safe. Even Chris said, “I can’t believe your warranty,” and added, “You have all been too good to me.”
This story and countless others like it, are why we proudly stand behind our motto that "A Safe Family is a Cannon Family™."
